AfPak File: Does Turkey's Kabul Airport Security Proposal Have Legs?

One of the top agenda items at this week’s NATO summit focused on the security of the Kabul international airport after the foreign troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

NATO member Turkey has offered to provide security, but it has conditioned this on assistance from other NATO members. The Taliban, however, has rejected the idea of Turkish troops staying on post-withdrawal.

The latest edition of The AfPak File examines why securing the airport is so important, especially after the withdrawal; it considers what might be driving Turkey’s offer; and it looks at what options there may be if the Turkey offer doesn’t work out.
