Smart Take | The Beginning of the End of Fossil Fuels? COP28 In Review

Nearly 200 countries wrapped up two weeks of negotiations in Dubai, as COP28 members attempted to tackle the enormous challenge of climate change. Jennifer Turner, Director of the Wilson Center’s China Environment Forum, describes the summit's significant outcomes. She explains the agreement to create a “loss and damage” fund, progress made towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions related to food production, new commitments in the spheres of renewable energy and energy efficiency, and the global pact on fossil fuels. The latter is a historic agreement to transition away from oil, gas, and coal for the first time in history.
