Developments in the Republic of Georgia

Statement from Wilson Center Global Fellow and former US Ambassador to the Republic of Georgia, Kenneth Yalowitz

Global Fellow Kenneth Yalowitz on Georgia's struggle to sustain democracy

"Georgia may well be at a crossroads in its democratic development. The use of force to arrest the leader of the opposition sets a bad precedent for using what should be an impartial justice system for political purposes. Georgia’s leadership must decide whether to continue on the path of being part of the Euro-Atlantic community based on democratic values and respect for human rights or slip backwards."
